Bowen Award

Phil Bowen was known to many in the Ann Arbor area for his superior legal ability and integrity, and also for his cheerful good nature and desire to help others.

A respected partner at the law firm of Conlin, McKenney and Philbrick, Phil Bowen was a perennial inclusion in the publication Best Lawyers in America.  His law practice, which ranged from representing individuals and small businesses to large corporations in transactions throughout the United States, brought his law firm wide recognition and continues as a cornerstone of the firm’s practice today.

Phil was also a vital part of the Ann Arbor community through his leadership of many community organizations.

He was founder, board member and past president of the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, served as board member of the Ronald McDonald House, and was a member of the Board of Trustees and past Chair of the Ann Arbor Community Foundation.

He also served as a trustee for the Buhr Foundation, Secretary of the Board of the Michigan Non-Profit Housing Corporation, and was a member of the board of Washtenaw Technical Middle College.

Phil was a member of the board and past Chair of Glacier Hills Retirement Community in Ann Arbor, and was also an active volunteer for the Interfaith Hospitality Coalition (now the community Kitchen at the Delonis Center in Ann Arbor).

He served his congregation at St. Clare’s Episcopal Church in Ann Arbor as a member of the Vestry and Senior Warden.
Phil Bowen’s respected career as the consummate lawyer in talent and in temperament was recognized by the Washtenaw County Bar Association, which awarded him the Professionalism and Civility in the Practice of Law Award in 2006.

Phil Bowen’s courage, strength and good humor to the end serve as a continuing reminder of his ability to inspire us all.
